I’m doing a quick check-in on courage from Dubai. As I went about my day in the city -- taking in all the sights -- it got me thinking
about courage. Dubai has become synonymous with the heights of human achievement. It’s a city of surreal scale, diverse cultures, and it’s full of
modern-day wonders. It boasts countless superlatives… the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, and the world’s tallest and largest observation
wheel, the Ain Dubai, which easily will significantly surpass the the London Eye.
When I have occasion to visit Dubai, it’s hard not to see the courageous thought resulting in a city that can claim record-breaking, mega projects. Can you imagine proposing the idea to put a ski slope and veritable winter wonderland inside a mall… in the middle of the desert? Or creating man-made islands and marinas in a sea of sand?
If these sound like crazy ideas… it’s because they are! Though, clearly they weren’t impossible or unachievable. Being surrounded by all these triumphs of the human mind and spirit, reminded me how courage intersects with crazy. If you’re like me, and you check in on courage often, you realize you push the boundaries of what some people may think of as courageous or crazy. If you follow the 7 Steps along the Best Life Map, you may find the courage you see is perceived as a bit crazy by other people. Being different and setting your own path often raises an eyebrow because you’re taking a different path than most people. My suggestion to you is it may not be such a bad thing!
Without comparing yourself to others… ask yourself if you’re following the path you’ve always taken and are getting the same results. If you feel like you’re on a well-worn path, I want to encourage you to think courageously… step outside the same parameters of thoughts and actions and maybe even just dare to be a little bit crazy ;-) Remember, if you want something you’ve never had, you have to do something you’ve never done.
As Benjamin Franklin said, “If everyone is thinking alike, then no one is thinking.” The world isn’t impacted by similar-thinking people.
The world is changed by our willingness to scale the heights and think courageously.
I’d love for you to reply below and let me know one way you can dare to think courageously, today. How can you do something differently than you’ve always done in order to move closer to living your Best Life?
