Let’s talk about surviving versus living and the difference between these two realities. I’m asking you...are you merely surviving or are you truly living? Are you on-track to living your Best Life?
Being alive simply means you woke up today. Though it’s a privilege denied to many, there’s so much more to life than merely existing, surviving, getting by, going through the motions. If you feel you’re just surviving...let today be the turning point. I encourage you to transform surviving into living. Begin by asking yourself how you define your best life. Only you can answer that! This is why I designed the Best Life Map and the 7 Checkpoints to be very personal to each one of us. How are you going to take action and truly live?
One reality I use as a motivator is that none of us gets out of here alive. Steve Jobs relayed a similar concept in the commencement address he gave at Stanford in 2005. He shared how he looked in the mirror each morning and asked: “If today were my last day, would I want to do what I am about to do today?”. This may seem a slightly unconventional topic for a bright-eyed, ready-to-take-on-the-world audience of young people...for whom their last day was the very last thing on their minds! Steve Jobs used this “checkpoint” of sorts to help him define what truly mattered. He also used the answer to this question to take action. This had been his daily practice for over 30 years—though it took on particular significance because he was one year out from his cancer diagnosis: “Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything...falls away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Death is the destination we all share. And that is as it should be, because death is very likely the single best invention of life. It is life’s change agent.”
No matter what, your life is a gift!
How are you going to take that gift and truly live? Pay attention to the 7 Checkpoints to think about your approach to each day. Use the urgency of each day to propel yourself forward in life. Do you have the courage to dream? What is it that you want to manifest? How will you convert opportunity into reality? How will you take action and move closer toward living an authentic life? What opportunities can you find each day to cultivate joy and gratitude?
Ultimately, when you follow through with the 7 Checkpoints, you will discover how to harness your experiences to become more resilient as you move closer toward living your Best Life every day and focusing on what truly matters.
